The Five Master Edits in Film

Leit Motif: In this film, each time that a character is dying, the camera flashes into a white space where one of the previously dead characters awaits them. The woman had been shot, is slowly dying in the hospital and is talking to her deceased father in some segway between the real world and death.  To signal she is dying, the camera moves into a bright area, and the camera does not immediately focus on the character. Knowing that this white space signifies a person slowly slipping away from life, it is known that the man has died after the plane crash.

Simultaneity: During the time that Alejandro, Victor, and Nadia are waiting in the living room for Montse (the woman who has been shot and is in the white space), the doctors are at the hospital treating Montse, and at the same moment, Montse is communicating with her deceased father as she slips away from life.

Contrast: The local cafe is bustling in the morning as people are entering for a quick cup of coffee and then leaving. Those who choose to sit for a meal or a cup are talking in the background. In the night, Rachel is left to clean up in the dark where no one but Ross is present. This shows the contrast from day and night, where a once busy locale becomes a lonely setting.

Parallelism: The film goes from the men who have come to attend the wedding singing Lay All Your Love On Me by ABBA in one scene at sunset, which then transitions to the party scene at night with the girls who would be attending the wedding singing the same song.

Symbolism: Prior to Sophie's potential biological fathers' realization that they may be her father, the dolphin mosaic in the center of the hotel is intact. Sophie is still unsure of who her father is and does not want to tell two of the three men whom she has called upon for her wedding that they are not her dad and shall not be walking her up to the alter. After the three men come to the conclusion that they may be Sophie's father, and Sophie is aware of their realizations, a scene of the cracked dolphin is shown, symbolizing the chaos and confusion that has occurred and will continue.
